how do I list my contacts alphabetically by surname and not first

eAfter upgrading to a new drive, I transferred all my outlook files from the
old drive including my contact list. On the previous drive the contacts were
listed alphabetically by SURNAME. After tranferring, they somehow became
listed alphabetically by FIRST NAME. I have tried everything to change this
but cannot find a solution apart from deleting everything & re-listing which
will take days!!! Can anyone help please?

You left out all relevant information.
To what view are you referring and in what version of Outlook?
