how do I alphabetize contacts? Mine are out of order

G

Guest

1. The names in my contact list in Vista are not in alphabetical order.
Where do I find the setting to fix this?

2. Even though I have selected names in my contacts to be listed by last
name first, some contacts appear by first name. How do I correct this?

What is a "contact list in Vista" and what does it have to do with Microsoft
Outlook?
If, in fact, this is an Outlook question, then you will need to state to
what version and view of Outlook you are referring.

I have the same question. Am using Contacts in Outlook 2003. How do I sort
by alpha, last name preferred. And how do I get the Address Book to show me
LN, FN in the NAME column. Yes, I have tried reversing same in the FILE AS
box, and in the FULL NAME box. Both unsuccessful. What am i missing here?

Russ, Thank you for your helpful suggestion. As you already know, it worked.
Interesting, I typed “alphabetize†in the “Search for†box in this Office
Discussion group (Outlook, Contacts). But only got four hits. Replies to
all four questions from you were the same from you. Try it.

Brian – Thank you for suggesting restarting Office. I even went one step
further and did a cold boot of my machine just to make sure!

I also have MS Outlook Express on my laptop. Windows XP, Outlook Express
ver. 6. Same problem. But nothing in the Tools menu to allow me to setup
the way the Contacts are sorted. Any suggestions?

Lastly, my new desktop has Windows Vista. The mail program here is part of
Vista, and not part of Office. I imported my Contacts from Outlook. Got all
the info, but jumbled again. Do you know how to set the Contacts sort
capability in Vista, or is there a different group of experts to help with
this question?

I would never use the Search function in this newsgroup. You'd need to use
one that works, like Google, and a term that is more accurate like "Sort the
Outlook Address Book." I got 1,850 hits.

Neither OE nor Vista Mail have anything whatsoever to do with either Office
or Outlook. This newsgroup is for support of Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002,
2003 and 2007 from the Office family for Intel PCs. For Outlook Express (OE)
support try posting in this newsgroup:

Also a good source of Outlook Express info can be found here:

Are you serious? What does this have to do with Outlook contacts?
Were you thinking that an email client could override your mail server's
settings?
Email is received in the order in which it was received by the server. You
can't change that.
You can certainly sort your Inbox any way your heart desires after the
messages are received. Knock yourself out.

Folders sets (PSTs) will display in the Nav Pane in the order in which you
