How do I keep my icons in folders?

I am using Windows XP Pro and I have some folders on my desktop where I
wish to keep the folder view using icons. When I reboot, my programs in
these folders show up in "details" instead of showing my icons. I do not
want icons to show up when I am using the windows explorer folders
(where I want to have "details") but I do want the icons to show up when
I open my desktop folders. Can I do this and how?
