how do I install outlook 2003 desktop alert

I want to be notified when new messages arrive with a thumbnail (or desktop
alert) of the E-mail's text. Under the advanced E-mail options, my version of
Outlook does not have a box to check for Desktop alerts. I am only able to
receive a little envelope on my task bar when new mail arrives.
Please let me know if there is any way to download the desktop alert option
or how else I can get this useful tool on my outlook. Thanks.

It is not a separate feature so it should be there unless disabled by your
system administrator (quite unlikely).
What are your options listed in the section "When new items arrive in my
Inbox"
What is your exact version number reported by Help-> About
