how do I insert 'proprietary' diagonally across printed slide

Or anything to depict a destinction of the slides

Go to View - Master - Slide master and insert it in the master, so that it
will appear on each slide. Don't forget to switch back to Normal view.

Are you trying to get something which prints but does not appear in the show?

If so follow Ute's advice (make sure that the text is positioned so that it
wont ne covered up by other elements)

In custom animation set EXIT > DISAPPEAR > WITH PREVIOUS

This way it will never show in presentations but will show in normal view
and on prints.

In addition, to make the 'proprietary' diagonal, you will need to use
wordart.
In slide master, select Insert > Picture > WordArt.
Click on the second wordart and click ok.

Missed out textbox, my bad. For textbox, select Draw > Rotate > Free Rotate.
Then, hover over the green dots and tilt the text.
