How do I insert a doc with a footer into another doc with a macro

I have created a letterhead that has a footer at the bottom with all of our
office locations displayed. When our secretaries type out a letter, they use
a macro to insert this letterhead into their letter. When the letterhead is
inseted, the footer disappears. How do I fix this?

The footer only shows up if I use the letterhead macro first and then type
directly into it, however, the footer then displays on every page but I only
need it to show up on the first page.

Thank you for your help.

Instead of inserting a letterhead using a macro, create a template that
contains the letterhead content, including the footer. See

I have tried this article many times and I cannot get it to work. Also, would
a template work for all versions of Word or just 2003? Thanks for your quick
response.

Yes, the instructions given in that article should work for all recent
versions of Word (Word 97 and above). I don't know why they're not working
for you, as many thousands of users are using this type of template every
day.

Can a template be inserted into a document? We have a case management program
that creates letters and documents for us and then we need to add the
letterhead to the document once it has been created. Or do we have to open
the template first and then type into that? Thanks.

You don't ever open a template except to modify it (to update the
letterhead, for example). Rather, you create a new document based on the
template (File | New) and either type or paste the text into it.

Thanks for your responses. I really appreciate your help. I still cannot get
the footer on my letterhead to show up when it is inserted into an existing
document by using a macro. The footer shows up just fine when the letterhead
is opened up on a blank document, but when a document has been typed and then
I use the macro to insert the letterhead to this doc, the footer of the
letterhead still disappears.

You're still not getting it. You should not be inserting any part of this
document with a macro. You should create a template that has the letterhead
(header and footer) and type your document there or, for existing documents,
paste the text into a new document based on the letterhead template.

Suzanne-
I think we are both correct on what we are saying to each other. We have a
program that creates documents and then saves and organizes them into a list
for our firm. We cannot copy and paste text because these documents will not
save into this program.
