My old computer with Windows 2000, amd Office 2000 crashed and died. I did
have a backup to disc of my outlook 2000. I now have a new pc, with XP, and
Office 2007. I am trying to transfer my contacts from the old file to the
new. I don't know how. Whenever I try to open file. a message came up
saying "you are attempting to open a file of type Microsoft Office Outlook
Personal Folders (.pst)" it goes on to say that opening them could damge my
system. I then messed up, and somehow got to the stage where I changed the
"open with" option to Outlook manually, and now the error message reads: "the
command line arguement is not valid, verify the switch you are using". Can
someone please help...I am getting mired in a mess here!

In Outlook, File->Open->Outlook Data File. You never import native Outlook data.

Yes, I tried that also...after reading some of the posts on here, but the
message came up saying: "file access is denied. you do not have the
permission required to access the file...(file path/name).pst"

Probably because you didn't copy the pst-file to your hard disk first and/or
not removed the Read Only file attribute.
