How do I hyperlink to a FOLDER on my server?

Naturally, I can setup a hyperlink to a file on my server drive, but I can't
setup a hyperlink to a folder, so when that folder comes up the user can
drill down to the content in that folder.

Do I need to learn about "virtual directories" in order to do this? Isn't
there an easier way? I'm not a programmer.

Tom

Your host would have to enable "allow directory browsing" in order for that
to happen.

I will expand and say that besides the directory browsing,

Are you saying that a default page is a security risk?
Should all my folders have index pages removed? Right now I
have index pages in my folders, all of which redirect to
the home index page. Is this wise?

Thanks for any clarification.

Steve H

No. A default page will just stop anyone from browsing a folder and see it content is browsing is
allowed on the folder.

This thread has nothing to do with a security risk of having a default page.

It is about showing the contents of a folder for people to view the files
available.

So in conclusion:

If folder browsing is supported, having an index page is a
good thing. If folder browsing is not alowed, having an
index page is irrelevant.

Is this correct?

Yes, if you do not want anyone to see a display of the folder content.
If folder browsing is not allowed, having an index page is irrelevant.
If you do not have a index page, the user will get an error message if they just browse to the
folder without specifying a filename.

That's clear! Thanks, and have a good weekend.

but then and only then if it is named as the default page file name that the
server admin/host has set for it e.g. index.htm, default.asp etc.
otherwise it will list the directory contents as normal if an 'index' file
as above isn't present in that folder.

The OP was asking how to get the directory listing, which requires no
default page be present.
