How do I get the barcode on labels using mail merge in Word 2003

I can get a barcode on labels until I try to use Mail Merge through Outlook.
When I choose my contacts in Outlook...use mail merge from Outlook... to a
label doc in word...it will not include the postal barcode? Please help!

Word will not include the bar code on labels that are too small for an extra
line of print. What size labels are you using?

I am using 1-1/3" x 4" (14 labels per sheet). A barcode will print on the
label If I start out in Word and create a new document under labels. It is
the process of starting in Outlook....choosing the contacts for the mailing
there (I choose by category - that's why it's important to start out in
Outlook)....then choosing mail merge - when the wizzard opens up and I follow
the correct prompts....that's when the barcode does not show up.
