"Background printing" has nothing to do with printing the background; it
refers to printing *in* the background, that is, while you continue working
in Word. In Word 2003, you can print a background by checking a specific
option on the Print tab of Tools | Options; in earlier versions, the only
way to print the background is to save the document as a Web page, open it
in your Web browser, and print, *after* changing Internet Options | Advanced
to "Print background colors and images."
To create a "background" that will print in Word 2002 and 2003, use Format |
