How do i get rid of http://url.urtbk.com

The Kid

I can't get rid of this web site listed above.[http://urtbk.com] It has
taken over my home page, removed all my system restore points, puts up web
pages at random, and so on. I'm running XP and IE 8. Please help before
birthday 75 in Dec. Thanks, one and all

Go through these general malware removal steps systematically -
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Include scanning with David Lipman's Multi_AV and follow instructions to do
all scans in Safe Mode. Please see the special Notes regarding using
Multi_AV in Vista.

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Multi-AV - instructions
http://tinyurl.com/yoeru3 - download link and more instructions

When all else fails, get guided help. Choose one of the specialty forums
listed at the first link. Register and read its posting FAQ. PLEASE DO NOT
POST LOGS IN THE MS NEWSGROUPS.

If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair
shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be
aware that not all local shops are skilled at removing malware and even if
they are, your computer may be so infested that Windows will need to be
clean-installed. If possible, have all your data backed up before you take
the machine into a shop.

To the kid: I endorse Malke's recommendations here, and strongly
recommend that you follow them (and I'll also mention that I will be
72 in November, and you are only slightly less than three years older
than I am).

I also see that you got a reply and a recommendation from he (or she)
who calls himself "The Real Truth MVP." I caution you not to follow
any advice that he gives you, since he is a well-known troll and fake
MVP posting in these newsgroups. You take your life in your hand if
you download and use any of his stolen (and likely modified to make it
dangerous) software.

Use my Remove-it software, it will remove that malware from your system.
Choose yes for all options when prompted. Download it here
http://www.ms-mvp.org/
The Real Truth MS MVP is not listed on the MVP list:

The Real Truth MS MVP is listed in the MVPS HOSTS file supplied by
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/

127.0.0.1 pcbutts1-therealtruth.blogspot.com
127.0.0.1 pcbutts1.com

Anyone using this reputable HOSTS file will not be able to access the
above two web pages.

If you allow it, the Remove-It software will install a HOSTS file that
actually blocks reputable web pages, like the aforementioned MVPS web
page. Two lines from the HOSTS file installed by the Remove-It software:

# [Thieves and trolls]
127.0.0.1 www.mvps.org
127.0.0.1 mvps.org

Check out “pcbutts” using your favorite search engine.

The real truth about the Remove-It software is if you install it you
will be asking yourself how to remove it!

lol, EXCELlent, JD! I never thought about "it" being inserted into the
HOSTS file! I've been wondering what got "it" riled up again; "it" has
been posing again for about a week now, I'm pretty sure. Maybe the IPs
belong there too<g>!

Cheers,
