How do I get Outlook to run in the background?

I have XP and Office 2003. Outlook starts on boot but if I close the program
it completely closes and I have to reopen it to check my mail. Is there a way
to get it to run in the background and just have the icon in the system tray?
Thanks!
 
Right click on the outlook icon next the clock in system tray and select
hide when minimized.
