How do I get access to C:\RECYCLER ?

Anti-spyware software on my computer is telling me to delete a file located
in C:\RECYCLER. I can't find this file in my own Recycle Bin, or in the
Recycle Bin of the only other user of this computer.

I've read that C:\RECYCLER is a folder that contains separate folders for
the Recycle Bin for each separate user. However, I can't figure out how to
get access to C:\RECYCLER. It doesn't show up on my C: drive, even with
"Folder Options" set to show all hidden files.

So-- how do I get access to C:\RECYCLER so I can delete this file?

Thanks.

I believe recycler is a system file not a hidden file. Go to the same area
where you clicked to show hidden files and also select show system files.

Hello Peter,

Just empty your recycle bin. Then there will be no more files in there. I
would recommend just using the cleanup utility. it will delete everything
from everyone's recycle bin. Start > All Programs > Accessories > System
Tools > Disk Cleanup. Although if you still want to see the folder you will
have to go into folder options and uncheck the box that says hide protected
operating system files. Even though you can see it i dont believe it will
let you delete anything from it, your better off just using the disk cleanup
tool.

I have the same poblem. These are virus files that won't index and thus
can't be deleted from the Recycle Bin. Naturally I've all sorts of DOS
tricks and changed folder options to show hidden and system folders and files.

Antivirus software can't remove it as well including AVG, Bitdefender,
Norton AV so... how does one get rid of these files?

Start up with WinXP CD, boot to recovery console
type attrib c:\_recycled -s -h -r
del c:\_recycled

C:\Recycler on an NTFS drive.

Probably easier to boot, hitting F* from the menu, to
Safe Mode - Command Prompt
and give the commands from that
