How do I get a new mail icon into my quick launch bar

I used to have a "new mail" icon in my quick launch bar where I could get a
new mail message without having to go into Outlook and clicking on new.
Since changing over to a new laptop, I can no longer find how to get that in
there. I saw someone gave an answer on how to do this for an earlier version
-- stating I should create a shortcut from the location in the program
representing that new mail message, but I can't find that same file in
Windows 2007. Can someone guide me to the "new message" file in 2007?

A shortcut with the target as follows

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\OUTLOOK.EXE" /c ipm.note

So, apparently I am more "outlook challenged" than I thought. When I go into
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12 -- there is no Outlook.exe. There
is an outlook.exe.manifest and the outlook application icon, but I guess I
don't know where to go from there. I am assuming I am trying ot find that
exact file you noted below, make a shortcut of it, and then slide that into
my quicklaunch bar. What am I missing?

there has to be an Outlook.exe unless your system is hiding the ".EXE".
But to make things simple just r-click the manifest file, and select
Send to, Shortcut to desktop, then Edit that Shortcut on the desktop by
pasting in the text I provided to replace the entire target line. Then
Drag and drop the shortcut into the Quick Launch Toolbar
