How do I get 2 XPs w/ a crossover to communicate?

Adam E

I set both up on the same domain name and different static IP addresses. They
are able to say the LAN is connected, but I cannot exchange any data between
them.

I tried pinging, but each ones' other would time out.

What I have set up currently is:
| "Local Area Connection Properties"
| -> "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" -> "Properties"
| -> -> "Use the following IP address:"
| -> -> -> IP addr. and subnet mask set, but not gateway
| -> -> "Use the following DNS server addresses:"
| -> -> -> None are set

If any steps are needed, (like setting up one XP to be a DHCP or DNS,)
please provide help for me.

Thanks

Is this a direct connection between the two computers?
If so, you need a crossover cable.

I'm using a crossover. The 2 computers say they're connected, but I cannot
connect to the other (ex. to the other C: Drive)

Hi,
I'm having a similar problem Like "Adam E".
I'm trying to connect two PC's, One with windows98 SE and other is a
multiBoot 98/2k/XP_sp2 system. On win2k system Systray icon intermitantly
showing cable unpluged error.

In network neighborhood I found each of computer's own shared resources, But
not for the remot computer.
some times I've found the remote system in network neighborhood, but unable
to log on.

( All is true for other operating systems)

What I want to know is that:

1) What are the minimum and maximum length for the crossover cable. ( I'm
using a 50' cable, should I shorten that? ).

2) Is this neccesary to use TCP/IP and static IP for cross over cables?

3) Can I share Internet connection with this setup?

4) Can I play Multi Player Games with this setup?

As I'm a bit of novice in this regard, I will be thankful to any one who
could provide me step by step support.

I'm having another problem with posting my question, As I've posted a few
before , but unable to do so now, when I click new question, nothing happens.
and a popup block window appears allowing Or not allowing the popups did not
make nay difference.So I have to post my question in reply to this postm
(sorry about that).
please help me out in this situation too.
