How do I find my windows mail folder

I upgraded to win7 and win live mail can't find my old vista windows mail to
import. Where do I look for the folder. It is a shame that micro?? doesn't
make this an automatic feature. I found all my outlook express files from
when I imported those into vista mail but can't locate the vista mail
folder.

See if there is a Windows.old directory under C:\.
If so, point your WLM importer to
\Windows.old\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail.

I don't have windows old. I found several folders under user for windows
mail but all have no email files. I did see a folder for documents and
settings that is locked and I can't access. Do you think that it might be
under that.. if so, how do I unlock the folder. I tried as an administrator
but even though I changed permissions and access, it stays locked and I
can't get into it to look at any files...

OK, I found them. I downloaded a program called the everything from
voidtools.com. It seems this is a search program. It found all the email
files and I was able to copy them all to a new folder. Problem solved. I
wonder why the windows search didn't find all these files. I have to give
credit to allenclick for suggesting this program.

If there really is no Windows.old folder, then perhaps you did a
clean install of Windows 7 instead of an in-place upgrade of Vista.
"Documents and Settings" is Windows XP terminology, not Vista.
If you did an upgrade from XP, I can't help because I haven't worked
with XP for more than three years already.

The files are hidden and you probably didn't include hidden files in the
advanced search parameters.

Windows Search can be temperamental, depending on which advance
options you have in effect. In your case, you should have navigated to
the likely places with Windows Explorer. But all is well that ends well.

Yeah, but you have to specify in the Search parameters to include hidden
files and folders in the search, or it won't.
