How do I export in a video format

I am editing a video - I have a fantastic slideshow on a powerpoint slide
that I want to export to be included in the video. Apart from filming the
powerpoint on screen is there any way of exporting the file in a movie format?

if you have access to any apple mac and powerpoint, it has an "export to
quicktime" feature built-in.

I can thoroughly recommend Camtasia from www.techsmith.com.

It can be used with Powerpoint. either an embedded "Record to Camtasia"
option or, for better performance, run the PPT in full screen mode and simply
capture the entire screen as you click away.

It comes with a fabulous codec that compresses to AVI so even a long PPT
show will compress to only a few MB.

I then feed into Adobe Premier Pro to noodle around even more, but you might
not have to do that.
