Slowwww video playback in Powerpoint 2007

I'm using Powerpoint 2007 and Windows Vista. I've inserted an AVI movie into my presentation, but it plays back incredibly slow...a snail's pace, when I play it in the slideshow. The video plays fine in Windows Media Player, but barely moves in Powerpoint. I've tried inserting other videos in the same format and I get the same result regardless of file size. This is really frustrating. Any ideas?
