How do I edit background graphics in Powerpoint 2007?

working on a powerpoint project with a set master slide. I need to edit text
in a recurring watermark (?) that displays on every slide. When I hide the
background graphics, they disappear. How do I get to this darn thing?

Try View > Slide Master

You should be able to select and modify there??

Hide the background graphics how? I don't quite follow this ... if you hide
something wouldn't you expect it to disappear?

What I mean is I can hide the entire "watermark", but I can't edit it. It
must show on the slide, but my choices right now are to hide it or have it
show incorrectly.

Does that make any sense? After 24 hours I'm a bit blurry....
