How do I do background music for my WHOLE powerpoint presentation?

How can I get a piece of background music to play throughout my Powerpoint
presentation and not just on one slide. I've attached a music file to my
first slide, a title slide, but when I run the Powerpoint presentation, the
title slide just sits there while the music plays (about 6 minutes) instead
of transitioning to the next slide. I've searched the help files, but had no
luck finding an answer.

You should add your music under Slide Transition.
Go to Slide Show > Slide Transition. Under Modify transition, modify the
"Sound" field by selecting the sound you want to use. You can do so by
scrolling down to the bottom of the list and click "Other Sound..." to choose
a WAV file. Click on the box next to "Loop until next sound" to put a
checkmark if you want the music to repeat continuously.

If your sound isn't in the correct file format, look for a audio conversion
program in Google.

Thank you for the reply. I did exactly what you said. I converted my six
minute piece of music to a wav file which Powerpoint recognizes. I went under
slide show>slide transition and under modify transition I modified the sound
fiels by selecting my new wav file.

However, when I play the presentation with sound, the opening slidecomes on
and the sound plays. Insted of the program moving on to the next slide, the
opening slide remains on screen and the sound continues to play until the
whole six minutes of music is over. That opening slide is set to be open for
3 seconds and then it's supposed to fade into slide number 2. I have no
trouble getting the music to play. The problem I'm having is making the
slides change while the music plays.

Thanks again.

If the sound is added under slide transition and you have put a checkmark on
the "Automatically After", it should works nicely. If you have inserted a
sound file earlier on thorugh Insert > Movie and Sound > Sound from File, did
you remove it?
