How do I do a system backup?

I have a 1 gig removeable drive, and I would like to make a winXP Pro system
backup ( only system and OS info) so that I can easily restore the system if
there is a crash. I have data and apps backed up elsewhere.

Is there a simple way to make this kind of system backup?

One of the easiest ways is to use image software like drive image or true
image. This will make an image of your drive in its currect state and after
a crash you can restore it back without even installing windows again. Lets
you pick and choose files to bring back also if necessary. But a 1 gig
removable drive most likely isn't going to be big enough to backup onto.

Use a third-party program like Norton Ghost or DriveImage or Acronis
True Image to do this. And FYI, don't ever post your real email address
in a newsgroup or you will get tons of spam.

You need ghost or something.

The Ms Backup program is on the XP install CD.
It doesn't install with XP installation. You have to Install it separately.

Not quite correct. It doesn't install automatically with XP Home.
It *does* install automatically with XP Professional.

If you have the complete XP Home CD, find backup on the CD, in
\ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP and install it yourself by doubleclicking
the file ntbackup.msi.

If you don't have an XP CD, you can download ntbackup.msi at
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi
