how do I disable drop-down menus?

when I type an e-mail address on hotmail or other program
the fisrt letter gives me a huge list of people,
addresses, to choose from. I dislike this feature. I
want to disable these automatic drop-down menus. how do
I do that on XP home.
 
Goto Internetoptions-->Enhanced--->Disable "Use AutoComplete"

Chris,

If your in IE, you're talking about the AutoComplete feature. I found
that incredibly annoying too. Tools - Internet Options - Content
gives you adjustment of that feature.

Excel has this "feature" too. Tools - Options - Edit gives you a
check to turn it off.

Other programs, other settings.
