How do I delete shortcuts

I want to keep some shortcuts like the Recycle Bin.How do I delete shortcut
icons from the desktop,like patches for games,but keep the files in the
computer?

Right click on the shortcut icon and choose delete, or high light the icon
and press the delete key. These actions will move the shortcut into the
recycle bin.

Simply delete the shortcut. All it is is an additional means to execute the
file. Deleting shortcuts does not affect the file that it points to.

Drag the shortcuts to the Recycle Bin and click the confirmation
window that pops up.

Just as you would delete any other file. Any of the following work:

1. Highlight it and press delete.

2. Right-click on it and choose delete.

3. Drag it to the recycle bin.

Deleting a shortcut, whether on the desktop or anywhere else, deletes
the shortcut but not the file to which it's a shortcut.
