I have been reloading all my programs after doing a complete reinstall of XP
Pro. I am the only user of this machine & don't ever need a password.
This morning when I turned on the PC I was confronted with the windows log
on screen which requires me to click the icon of the administrator so that I
can get rid into windows, What did I do to get this unnecessary extra icon
& how do I get rid of it? The last thing that I installed was Microsoft's
net framework.

You dont want or need to delete the account.

If you wish to auto login look below.
1. Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2 and press ok.

2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To
Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name
and password for the account you want to be logged on each time you start
your computer.

What would have changed my settings? I didn't have this extra screen
displayed yesterday?

..NET Framework can sometimes change it

I tried going to start>run "password2" but no files with this name were
found. A search for 'userpassword2' produced nothing as did 'userpassword'

I then wondered if you has intended that the password be change under
Control Panel> User Accounts. This gave me 3 choices 1/ administrator, 2/
guest (guest account is off) or 3/ ASP Net Machine "limited (account
Password protected.).

Is this where you intended for me to make changes to be made? I don't know
what ASP Net Machine account is but as I said before I am the only person
who touches this machine & I should not need a password either now or in the
future. Since I have never ever entered an passwords for myself a guest or
ASP Net. so I'm at a loss as to why I would have to delete accounts that I
never created.

I have looked at the Administrators create password section where it invites
you to set a password but I haven't put ant details on this screen. Where
do I fix my problem?

sorry I don't have the solution to your prob, but I wonder if anyone at can help me as my question has not yet been printed on the new post for some reason
I am a novice user and have a big prob' with user accounts too: After on-line crash my computer seems to have reverted back to an earlier setting meaning that there are four guest accounts on the welcome screen, and worse still my user account now states LIMITED even though I am the owner and now sole user of this computer. How do I delete guest accounts and revert my own back to administrator? Your help would be hugely appreciated asp>!!

Hi Alice,

Go to Start >Run and type 'control userpasswords2' (without the
quotation marks). Select the account you're using and click on
properties.

Then go to the 'groups,' tab, check 'others' and in the drop down
menu that appears, select 'Administrators.' OK your way out.

This should give your account administrative privileges.

As for managing the guest accounts, go to Start > Control Panel >
User accounts, delete the unwanted guest accounts.

Hope this helps.
