How do I delete a Private appointment in a shared calendar?

An appointment labeled "Private" was inadvertantly copied into our new
department-shared calendar. How can I delete this appointment? We have
tried to adjust the appointment setting on the original calendar and
completely deleting the appointment as well. Neither option has worked.

Start Outlook with a mail profile that connects directly with that mailbox, rather than accessing it as a secondary mailbox.
