How do I correct the inbox message indicator? A user has multiple inboxes
for which she is responsible. Her regular inbox shows the correct number of
messages, but another one she uses for tracking specific items shows the same
number as her inbox, but there is only one message in it.

Inbox message indicator? What might this be? The icon in the system
notification area (i.e., system tray icon)? The new message count in
the Fisher-Price "Welcome Screen" (which means you are in a workgroup
instead of a domain and the classic login screen is *not* used)? If
using the new message count on the Welcome Screen, it probably only
shows the count of new e-mails in the default mail profile for each user
account.

The number of new messages is based only on the Inbox, and there is only
one Inbox per message store (i.e., PST file or Exchange mailbox). You
creating more e-mail type folders in your message store is irrelevant to
the fixed and lone Inbox folder in that message store.

Are you using multiple mail profiles, each with a different message
store, so that you can have multiple but separate Inbox folders? The
Welcome Screen probably shows the message count for whatever mail
profile was getting used by Outlook [Express] to poll for new messages.

Thank you for responding. I am not sure of most of your questions; I am new
in this role.

What I mean by message indictor is the number in parentheses next to the
inbox that indicates your unread mail. The user in question has an
additional mail folder added to her folder list, thus, enabling her to check
for mail sent to this email address requiring action. There are other users
who can also access the account.

For example, a person may be responsible for checking requests for room
resources and accepting or declining them based on the availability of the
room. In this instance, an inbox and calendar for the resource could be
added to the user's folder list for eacy access.

Do you know anything about this?

Does that mean she added an e-mail type folder in her own private
message store, or she opened a public message store? Or is she using a
rule to move e-mails delivered through a specific account into a
different folder?
For example, a person may be responsible for checking requests for
room
resources and accepting or declining them based on the availability of
the
room. In this instance, an inbox and calendar for the resource could
be
added to the user's folder list for eacy access.

Sounds like you are having this user open a separate message store,
public or private, to which she has been granted permissions. The
user's normal message store would be typically be shown with the
"Outlook Today" label on it and it is the message store specified under
File -> Data File Management as the one for mail delivery (i.e., where
inbound e-mails get delivered). When opening another message store, it
will appear in the tree list but under a separate branch as its own
message store. Items that are delivered to one message store are not
going to affect the read status of items delivered to a different
message store. The items were delivered to different message stores,
one for her e-mails and another related to calendaring management of
conference rooms.

If the number of unread items shown in parenthesis next to a node in the
tree list does not match what is seen in the message list pane, perhaps
the view mode is altering what you see. Check under the View menu to
see if you are showing all messages (pick the "Messages" views). You
might also want to ensure that the Messages view hasn't been customized
by going under the view definitions, selecting that view, and resetting
it..
