How do I change my default inbox to an imap inbox folder?

I would really like to see the New Mail Desktop Alert when I receive a new
email message, but that only works when new mail arrives in my default inbox.
My current default inbox is in my personal folders. I don't use that inbox. I
use my imap inbox for incoming messages. Can I make my imap inbox my default
inbox? If not, is there a workaround?

There is no way to have IMAP folders be your default folders. You should be
able to create a rule whose sole function is to display a new mail alert
when a message is received in the IMAP Inbox.

A helpful response even if about a very unhelpful programme! Surely outlook
should be customisable to do things "my way" - I would prefer to get rid of
the standard inbox altogether and use just the imap one. How many years of
evolution and Micrososoft still think THEY know best how WE want to work.

This should be a very simple cofiguration job in well written programme

Hi, Gbswales. You can set your imap inbox to be your default folder, and
have alerts when you get a new message in your imap inbox. This is the way
I have mine set.

Under account settings don’t setup a POP account just setup your imap
account. In this way the system will never download mail to the pop inbox.
You’ll still get system messages in the personal folders inbox, plus by
default your drafts, sent items, and other system folders will remain in the
personal folders.

You can go to Outlook’s Tools -> Options -> Other -> Advance Options ->
[change the startup in this folder to your IMAP Inbox].

I have my Outlook start with the today screen. I find this very convenient
to get a glance of my immediate schedule. Then I click on my Imap Inbox
from there. By the way I also customized my Oulook today to display my Imap
Inbox status under messages.
