How do I bypass the "File Download" dialog?

I am trying to setup a file download from an internal web
server and have the file open in an application without
prompting the user to open of save the file.

Is it possible to do this?

I am using Windows XP and IE 6. I have setup a custom file
type ".xyz" and selected a default application to open the
file. I cleared the confirm open after donwload check box
in the Filetypes. I has no affect on the File Download
box. It still shows up every time.

I understand why I don't want this for all of the files on
the internet, but is it possible to do for a trusted site?

If it's really internal web server, put that server to Local Intranet
security zone. After that you can click for example link for Excel sheet and
make IE to open it wihtout download dialog.
