When you power on the computer, you can press a "special" key to enter
into BIOS mode. THat should be displayed on the screen telling you want
to do, or in the user manual for the computer. Sometimes it's F8, or
ESC, or something. The trick is to press it before Windows starts up.

Then in BIOS, make it so the CD will bootable. Should be
self-explanatory once you get to the menus.

Toshiba laptops display a message on bootup: "Press F12 to select
boot sequence". Then select the CDRom as first boot device.

You need to enter the Bios. To do this you have to
restart your system and when it starts to boot up keep
pushing f8 until you enter Bios then go to boot section
and make your cd drive the first bootable drive. save
changes then exit the bios. you can then boot from your
cd drive. When you are all done doing what you need to do
you should enter your bios again and change it back to
the way it was unless you are going to start your system
from the cd boot all the time.>

Good advice, but wrong advice. F8 may work for you, but none of the
several computers I use on a daily basis use the F8 key for BIOS
access. One uses ESC, one uses Del, another uses F10,
another.....well, you get the idea.

Remember, don't assume that what works on your computer is the
absolute example of what will work (or won't) on somebody elses' box.
Every BIOS manufacturer, and computer, is different.

Personally, I think you are confusing how to enter BIOS with how to
choose between booting between regular and safe modes in Windows.
BIOS and WinXP boots are two totally different things.

Yes - if you have no system on the machine you need to get into BIOS.
The manual should tell you what key to hit as it powers up. DEL is
quite likely

Or, *if* you have a usable version of Windows on the machine already and
want a clean install, Run the CD from the existing system. Enter
Install, change Upgrade to New Install, then when it asks you to confirm
where, you can hit ESC and get the chance to select the current
partition, delete it, and create a new RAW one, going on to format it
as part of the setup
