How do I add words without typing over already existing ones?

When I am editing, I add certain words into the middle of a paragraph.
However, now when I do this, it types over the other existing words. It's
frustrating and I don't know how to fix it.

You have posted this message to the wrong news group.
The access in this newsgroup's title refers to Microsoft Access, a
database product.

I would suggest you re-post to the appropriate Word newsgroup for your
version or Word.

By the way, did you check to see if you had inadvertently pressed the
Insert key. If so, the letters 'OVR' will appear at the bottom of the
screen. Press it again.
