How do I add "Bet-Hey" in Hebrew at top of a letter?

I'm converting all my files to Word 2003 (finally!), but I need to be able to
insert the Hebrew "Bet " Hey" at the top of my work. I cannot get the
characters to behave correctly.

Your help would be most appreciated.

Hi Paul,

To diagnose the problem and (maybe) fix it, we'll need some more
information about the documents and what you're trying to do:

- They're being converted from what? WordPerfect, another version of
Word, something else?

- "At the top of my work" -- where exactly is that? In the header (on
every page or just on page 1?), or in the body text at the beginning
of the document?

- Hebrew characters: are you using a Hebrew font, or the Hebrew part
of a Unicode font such as Times New Roman or Arial?

- What does "cannot get the characters to behave correctly" mean? Are
they in the wrong position? The wrong characters? Nothing appears?
Something else?

Thank you for your response.

YOu can forget about the converting part; it doesn't matter in this case. I
simply need to insert 4 Hebrew letters at the top of my documents, and Word
doesn't want to cooperate. When I tried copying them from the Character Map,
they don't copy in the correct order. When I try to change to a Hebrew font
and type them in Word, it immediately reverts to Times Roman (yes, I DO have
the Hebrew TTF fonts installed on my computer).

Any assistance will be most appreciated.

Hi Paul,

Instead of using Character Map, use the Insert > Symbol dialog in
Word. You can leave the Font box set to "(normal text)", which will
refer to Times New Roman if that's the font of the text at the
insertion point. Set the Subset box to "Basic Hebrew".

Select the bet character and click the Insert button. Select the hey
character and click Insert again, then click Close. Word is actually
smart enough to place the hey to the left of the bet -- something I
hadn't really expected. These characters really are Times New Roman.

You can also try setting the Font box in the Symbol dialog to Hebrew
and working with that -- I don't have those fonts so I can't tell you
whether they'll behave the same way -- but it isn't really necessary.
