how do i add a true font to the program

i want to add a true font that i have stored on the desk top to word, i have
added it to the font folder on the hard disc but that has not included it in
my word program. i run vista home

Version of Word?

Adding it to the font folder should be enough (properly installing might
be better ...), provided a reasonable printer driver is installed and
set to default in the OS.
