How do I activate handwriting features in Word?

I have a Wacom tablet attached to and working with Word. I use it to sign
documents and usually have no trouble. For some reason, handwriting is not
recognized. I cannot find nor activate the Writing Pad icon and nothing in
any of the helps, customizations, etc seem to have any effect. I have
reinstalled the handwriting recognition feature as directed, but when I try
to add Writing Pad or Write Anywhere, the only feature in the options box
that is active is a DVORAK keyboard option which I neither need nor want. It
seems that everytime I try to use this feature, I have to do through a long
search to reactivate it because it does not seem to remain available. Do not
know either why this is so difficult or why I have to rediscover the means
for activating the feature each time I need to use it after a long spell of
not needing it. It is also frustrating that the helps in the program will
tell me things like "click on the xxx" but will not tell me how to find or
activate the XX, which requires a different search.

Hi Duke,

You didn't mention the version of Word or Windows that you're using.
In addition to checking for an upgraded driver for the tablet through Wacom, you may want to check the settings in the Windows
control panel
Regional and Language Settings=>Languages=>Details
to see if the Advanced Text Services for the pads and inking are there if they are not on the language bar via Tools=>Speech in
Word.

There have been some issues with conflicts that keep some of the pads appearing in Word and the language settings have to be a match
as well.
