how do delay the start of a video

i would like to start an audio narration(separate .wav filed i imported) and
fade it in before the 1st video clip, but i only get "trim" options when i
try to move the video clip to start it at .10sec. Rather than simultaneously
when the audio clip plays

You cannot physically 'move' the first
video clip and leave a blank space
on the timeline.

Add a black photo to the timeline
and adjust the duration as required.

Just use an image editor to fill any
photo with black and save it under a
new name...'background' might be a
good choice. Then import it into
Movie Maker.
