Understand it won't have good resolution, TV's make poor
monitors.

That would depend on what type and how good his TV is and what he wants it
for. They are pecfectly good for games and videos since they are usually at
low resolutions anyway.

i know it can be. please help me.

I have an older Gateway attached to my TV via an S-video cord. Sound
goes through the receiver, and I use a cordless mouse as a remote.
Works well to play .avi files (TV episodes downloaded and sent to me
on CD by my son).

TVs make good displays for TV shows and that includes DVDs.
That's what they were designed to do. But they don't have
the resolution to make a good monitor, unless you spend the
money for a nice LCD or plasma TV.

I've been investigating this so I can watch my MP9 visualizations. The S
Video cord comes with a box about the size of CATV remote and is available
at Circuiyt City. Have fun...

You'll get no disagreement from me. I had to use the 27" television
screen as a monitor while getting the system set up so I could play
those .avi files of TV episodes. It's difficult to read words and
painful on the eyes, particularly since I had to use a corded keyboard
which kept me too close.

Now that everything is in order, no problem. Turn on computer, turn on
receiver and TV, click the episode I want to watch, and I'm good to
go.

I am planning to get an ATI All-in-Wonder card someday so I
can save a bunch of old video tapes and make screen
captures. If you are intending to watch video, TVs screens
do a passable job.
