How can I store a formattable document in the Notes Folder?

One of the notes in my Notes folder has an email icon; it opens as an
editable email capable of RTF formatting. I don't know how this happened and
would like to reproduce this capabiltiy for all my notes.

I tried dragging emails and .rtf and .doc files into the Notes folder, but
they drop all formatting and retain only basic text.

How can I create more notes with formatting capability?

It's impossible to know how it got there. What's important is that it's not a note. If you want a folder to hold that kind of item, create a new folder for mail and post items and use the New Post in This Folder command.
