Sometimes I want to get just into my calender and as soon as I open outlook,
all the mail comes in and sometimes it's full of spam, I like to go online
and delete the junk first before I receive emails but I can't find where to
stop it from automatically downloading the mail?

Please Help if you can?

In Outlook XP (2002), try Tools>Options>Mail Setup tab, and then uncheck
Send immediately when connected.

Rather than what Paul said, uncheck your automatic polling interval - it is this interval that causes the immediate download of emails.

Tools>Options>Mail Setup>Send/Receive. Uncheck the boxes labeled "Schedule
an automatic send/receive every". This will require you to click
Send/receive when you want to receive messages.
