How can I spell check messages composed in plain text?

I am using Outlook 2003 (11.8002.6408) SP1 and compose most messages in plain
text, but want to run spell check as my spelling is somewhere around the 9th
grade level :-)

I am using the same program (Outlook 2003) but am having difficulty in
trying to establish my settings such that when I perform spell check it will
also check for readability and passive sentences. I have had no problem
doing the same in word but am at a loss on how to establish the same settings
in Outlook 2003. Can you give me any clues?
