Do you store anything confidential on that machine? Bank site passwords,
etc? Credit card info?

If it's not encrypted it hardly matters if he does. With physical
access to the machine, or just it's hard drive it's easy enough to
steal all that.

True, but according to cops I've spoken to, most home burglaries are done by
people not smart enough to go much further than just turning on the machine
and giving up if they find a password. It couldn't hurt, right?

True enough, I work at a computer refurbisher. We had a break in
recently. The guy had bothered to go through a skylight, break 2
interior doors. For an old Pismo laptop worth maybe $150. He bypassed
thousands of dollars worth of RAM, Hard drives, a 5-gallon bucket of
processors, and broken off leads from old daughter cards (for gold
recovery). Those were worth at least $1200 in solid gold. He didn't
even look for the cash. We've come to the conclusion that he was either
too dumb to recognize what's really valuble or smart enough not to
trigger an investigation.

Control Panel/User Accounts. You can change it there.

Alias, thanx for the reply. No help there, it just changes the way it
looks. I'm trying to eliminate the screen completely-I NEVER had it before.

Thanx Alias, that doesn't get rid of the screen, it merely gives one the
option of changing it.
cheers-Herb.

hello to all who have this problem, this occurs because you have more than
one user account on the machine so windows xp will allow you to select these
user accounts, by default ms.net creates a hidden account ASP.net debugger
which you cant see on the welcome screen but is actually on the machine, the
best way is to go to the users control panel applet n delete all user
accounts accept for your own, and the guest account. Or you can go to the
User managment console and delete the usernames you dont wish to have on
your machine, reboot and it will automatically log you in, so long as there
is no password on your account... this should solve your problem.

Hope this helps.
