how can I keep the original date of a document ?

I often use templates to create documents. On the majority of these the
date is automatically inserted. How can I open a saved document that
will show the original date ? everytime I open an old letter the date
changes to the day I open the document. As I normally need it to print
another copy, it is a problem.. I want my letter to open with the
original date.. Help please

Use the CreateDate field which as its name suggests will always display the
date the document was created. If you use it in a template, when you open a
document from the template it displays the date the document was created and
not the template.

In your template, click on the date and press Shift-F9. You will see a field
code containing either DATE or TIME. Change that word in the field code to
CREATEDATE. Press F9 again. You will then see the date your template was
created. In documents created from this template in the future, the date
will be the date the document is created.

You can do the same thing in any of your legacy documents.

Hi, you can keep the original date of a document by
turning off the auto-format date option. Go to Format-
autoformat-options,smart-tag, find the date option and
uncheck it.

In a template, this will result in a permanent date that will show in
resulting documents, not what is wanted. Otherwise, good idea.
