How can I disable the XP log on screen?

Do not need to bother with the log on screen and when I have a power failure
and my computer restarts when the power is restored it hangs on the damned
log on screen and won't completely boot up, thereby not start my email
client. Sure would like to return to the days of 9X when I didin't have to
deal with that nuisance. Can anyone help?
