failure to log on

On booting I am informed on the screen:
"The system could not log on. User name and domain name are correct. Then
Type your password again!"

I have complied. Failure to sign on.
I have changed my password. Nil effect.
I have deleted my password and name. Left is the administrator log on. Nil
effect.
It's a nuisance no more, cause by clicking on the message, the next screen
shows administrator box and clicking on it boots-up the PC.
I would like to solve the problem though. Thanks!

The message is probably created by an automatic logon process that you
established some time ago. Some time later you changed your password but did
not align the password for the automatic process. You must now adjust the
automatic process so that it uses the correct account name and password.
Here is a description of one of the usual automated logon processes:

Hi Pegasus, I followed your instr. The box for "User must enter....." was
already clear. The List of Users for this computer shows 1. Administrator 2.
ASPNET (my guess is its for guests,) and 3. Richard.
1 and 2 are listed under Administrator.
In User Account (control panel) only Richard and Guest are shown.
Follwoing the instr. I clicked on the box, typed a password, retyped
password, deleted 1 above, cleared the box and clicked to close the
Automatically Log On window. After restarting the PC the result was no "auto
log on" the system could still not log on.
I then retraced your recommended steps, and found that the 1. User Name
which I had delelted, is still No 1 in the greyed out area of Users for this
compunter.

The link I gave you is only one of several methods to perform an automatic
logon. Another method is TweakUI, a third is a direct registry hack. I have
no way of knowing which method you used.

I used the "control userpasswords2" without quotes" Thinking I made a
mistake, I repeated the excercise and had some success. However one of the
two msgs remained.
It read: If you have forgotten your password and wish to use your password
reset disk to set a new password for your account, press "Reset..." I did
with nil result. I would appreciate to try the other methods you mentioned.
Can you give me the URLs? Thanks
