How can I create a gallery based on a folder structure(dynamic)?

I would like to create a folder named 'gallery'. Folders within this folder
would be named for specific events and contain pics. I wish to display a
list of the folders(events) on my page as hyperlinks. Once an event is
selected, I would like to create a gallery page or a slideshow. Is this even
possible?

I would have one folder for each event and not put those folders within a
'gallery' folder. Remember to not use any spaces in your folder or file
names.
