Hi,

After converting my Windows 98 system to Windows XP
professional, everything seems to be ok. The system left
the C-drive untouched and installed the new software on
the D-drive.

After working a while messages appear stating that there
was only little free space left on the D-drive. I looked
what I could to to free but the system is already minimal.

Is there any change that I can extend the existing D-
drive or can I easily migrate the D-drive to the C-drive ?

I hope someone can help me.

Thank you,

Hi Paul,

No, you would need to reinstall and direct it to C:\. If you have sufficient
space available, you can use the files and settings transfer wizard to
backup D:\ and import that into the new install on C:\ to save yourself time
in setting up the new installation to your liking.

Alternative to Rick's suggestion, is to clear out redundant material on
C: (but be sure to retain the boot files, ntldr, boot.ini and
ntdetect.com) and use third party software eg Partition Magic or
BootITNG) to shrink C and expand D into the space released. This keeps
things in the same drive letters (a minor inconvenience). There is
nothing sacrosanct about C, its just that D appears by now in so many
registry entries that you are stuck with the letter unless you start
over

With partition magic you can change partition sizes or even 'merge'
a partition into another partition if you want.
