New Volume?

My laptop running WindowsXP SP 3 had one harddrive divided into 2 partitions...
C:(system) and D:\drives. Ok ,so i recently decided to wipe my D: and split
it up into two parts. First part would be a new smaller D:\ drive and the
second half would be left as Free space to eventually put a Linux distro on.
Anyways now in Windows Explorer it shows D:\New Volume and not D:\local disk.
How come?

ps If you are wondering why the drive letter shows first it is a registry
change i made several years ago. I prefer the drive letter first.

You should be able to rt click the D: drive Icon in MyComputer and
select Rename and type in local disk.

When you install/create drives and do not supply a volume label, Windows
will used eithr of two default labes local disk or new volume.

As Rich suggests you can provide your own label.

After about 50 tries it finally obeyed me and now is displaying correctly.
Thanks to both of you.
