xp infected with spyware/virus, need to wipe the main drive...how doi keep my spanned volume?

Matt

i've got three hard disks - the main drive that has xp installed on it
has been infected and i need to wipe it clean. my issue is that i
have two other physical disks in the machine that are spanned into one
drive (D)...if i format the C drive and reinstall XP, will i still be
able to see the spanned volume when i start over? there are no
infected files on the D drive...

Disconnect the other drives while you work on it?

not worried about formatting the other drives, i know how to do a
clean install without disturbing the other drives...

what i'm wondering is will windows recognize them automatically as a
spanned volume or will there be issues (i.e. will i no longer be able
to access the data)?

you probably don't have a
choice.

either live with the issue
or resolve and take a
chance.

personally, I would attempt
a repair install first - before
the nuke method.

How did you set up the spanned volume? If if is through a motherboard RAID
function, there should be no problem, except for drivers.

I've never used it, but is this a "dynamic disk" under XP disk
initialisation options?

Anyway - state how, or what software you used to create the spanned volume
and I am sure someone can help.

yes, it's a dynamic disk using windows xp's disk manager. that's how
i set up the spanned volume...

I don't know. If it were me, I wouldn't take the chance of losing my stuff.
By that, I mean I'd copy the spanned volume to a terabyte external drive
before I did anything too drastic.

Here's one for about a hundred bucks:

living with the issue isn't an option, i just want to know if i can
resolve this using my spanned volume in some capacity or if i'm going
to lose everything on there too. i don't want to go out and buy a TB
external hd if i don't need to (i've already got over 1TB of storage
space on the machine as is)...

can anyone give me a definitive answer on this one way or the other?
any MVPs out there that can help me out?
