How can i avoid Lotus notes receiving a winmail.dat file

Each time I send a brief text message to a specific individual using Lotus
Notes from outlook he receives a winmail.dat attachment, if he replies to the
email I receive various .gif files, one of them is a pic06618.gif which is a
globe icon that notes adds; however I also receive a doclink.gif file rather
than the text reply that he has added..any ideas.

Make sure you don't send mail in Rich Text format. Use Plain Text or HTML
instead. The GIFs you get sound like they're part of a signature at his end
of things

Make sure you're not using Rich Text format for composing messages.
