I have been trying to upload digital video from camcorder but get distorted
grainy video ive heard about this IEEE 1394 but cant figure out if i have it
or not i went into control panel under firewalls, click advanced and under
network connections settings it shows 1394 connection with a checked box
before it does this mean that i have the IEEE 1394 firewall ?? and if i do
how do I go about using this ive only been trying to upload with a usb port
hence the bad video feed what can i do?? Please help
thank You

"Firewire" <-- not "firewall" in this case.

Do you have a firewire PHYSICAL connection on your computer?I have no idea -
with the network connection being there for it - i assume you do - but it is
a PHYSICAL connection... Do you have the correct cable you will need to
connect your camera to your computer - and the software to download it?

IEEE1394 is "FireWire"", not "Firewall". Firewire is a connection method,
like serial, parallel, USB and ethernet. A Firewall filters data
travelling over a connection method.

Firewire can be used for local networking connections, and hence it can be
firewalled.

Can you use it? Your computer apparently has at least one FireWire port, or
you would not see the IEEE1394 port in Network Connections.

But, does your camcorder have a FireWire port? Do you have the cables?
Have you installed the software for the camcorder?

Before you start plugging things together, though, read the manuals and in
particular any mentions of "hot-plugging". Hot-plugging is connecting a
device to a computer while the power is on, and it's running.

FireWire is supposed to support this, but it doesn't always work, in a
rather nasty way. Some manufacturers warn against it, as it can permanently
damage the units. I have personally destroyed all but one of the FireWire
units I've had by hot-plugging; I don't buy FireWire parts anymore unless I
have to.

The safest way to connect these units is to power everything down, connect
the cabling, turn on the peripheral (in this case the camera), then turn the
PC on. When you're done, power everything down.
