Hotfix KB824141

I'm trying to play a game, and every time I click the mouse, the game
crashes. The game support says I need to get rid of Windows XP Hotfix
KB824141.

The problem is, when I go into "Add or Remove Programs," and click on the
Hotfix KB824141, the "change" and "remove" buttons are not there, like it
says they will be.

So my question is: Is there another way I can delete this patch?

If you can help, please reply, or email me:

Hi

That is a Security Update and shouldn't really be deleted. What game are
you trying to play?

I'm trying to play "Black & White"

Tech support for EA games said it needs to be deleted in order to play the
game.

Hi

I've never played 'Black & White' so I've got no idea why it needs to be
deleted. If you have to delete it, try this:

Go to the windows folder in Windows Explorer and look for a folder named
$NtUninstallKB824141$. There should a sub-folder there named spuninst - run
the .EXE file if you find one. A note of warning: If you do run that .EXE
file you may very well see an message saying that uninstalling the Hotfix
could result in other Hotfixes and/or programs not running properly. You
will have to decide then whether you still want to carry on with
uninstallation!!

Thanks so much for the help!

I see the "Windows" folder, but I don't see one titled "$NtUninstallKB824141$"

I'll keep searching for it, though.

Thanks!

When I search for the KB number, I get a couple text documents, and a
security catalog.

Hi

I've copied the following from the KB article on the MS web site:

"Removal Information:
To remove this patch, use the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.
System administrators can use the Spuninst.exe utility to remove this
security patch. The Spuninst.exe utility is located in the
%Windir%\$NTUninstallKB824141$\Spuninst folder, and it supports the
following Setup switches:
/?: Display the list of installation switches.
/u: Use unattended mode.
/f: Force other programs to quit when the computer shuts down.
/z: Do not restart when the installation is complete.
/q: Use Quiet mode (no user interaction). "

Have you checked to make sure that the Hotfix has actually been installed?
Go to the Windows Update and click on 'View Installation History'. have a
look in that list for KB824141 or MS03-045.
