Hot pluggable HD does not show up

I have just added a new hot plug HD to our HP server. It shows up in the HP
array utility and I can see it in the Disk Management console but it does not
show up in My Computer therefore I cannot move any data onto it.
I already have a 72GB Hot plug in the server which has 3 partitions and is
setup as a Basic Disk. The new drive is also 72GB but is setup as a Dynamic
Drive. Would this be the problem? Do I need to revert it to Basic? Or is
something else wrong? I've tried removing it and reinstalling and
reformatting etc but still does not show up in My Computer. Would appreciate
any feedback.

<snip>

from Disk Management you need to assign it a drive letter

Yes I have already assigned a drive letter. In fact i've tried a few
different drive letters with no luck.

I have an Adaptec card raid array to which I added a hot swap drive, it
shows in Adaptec array utility but not in Disk Management This is by design
since it is designed to 'take over' if one of the array drives fails. I
could have added the drive as a seperate entity, in which case it would have
been available in My Computer as a completely seperate drive.
But then I might have misunderstood your post

Yeah i've added the drive as a second logical drive. Do not want to use
raid.. Just needed more disk space..

If it shows up in 'array utility' doesnt that imply you have a raid array
setup and the new hot swap has been added to this?

HP told me that even if i was not using an array configuration that I still
needed to add the drive through the HP array tool as a "logical drive"
instead of choosing mirroring or the like. The technician I spoke to really
had no idea what i meant when i was saying i just wanted to use the drive as
a logical drive and not part of a RAID.

I dont use an HP server array so I had a quick browse at hp;
My reading of an HP pdf seems to indicate you can add a drive to the hp
controler to either expand the existing array or use as a hot swap. There
was no mention of using the drive as a seperate device, but then I might
have chosen the wrong controler pdf.

If when adding the drive and the hp array utility shows this drive as a hot
swap then it would appear to have been configured by the utility to be
available to automatically take over if a drive in the array fails. Thus it
wont be avilable to Win for any other data.
I think some deep reading at HP is neccessary.
I use Adaptec controler using their utility I can either configure a new
drive as hot swap with my current array or add it as a seperate device.
